Town of Vinton Comprehensive Plan
Overview
The Town of Vinton lies directly to the east of the City of Roanoke. Throughout the Town's history Vinton has remained in Roanoke's shadow struggling to find an identity of its own. The Town possesses immense potential due to its proximity to Roanoke and the I-81 corridor.
Approach
Working in collaboration with Hill Studio, planning efforts focused on an a highly participatory public process which included several design charettes, public forums, preliminary plan presentations and formal public hearings.
The final Comprehensive Plan included an Economic and Community Development Plan to supplement implementation and funding strategies for such projects as downtown redevelopment. The final program articulated a strong sense of place. It leveraged community identity by establishing gateway entrances, corridor improvements, housing and neighborhood preservation, and greenways and parks.
