City of Petersburg Comprehensive Plan
Overview
The City of Petersburg has experienced a declining population and economy over the past half-century. Despite this, the City possesses great historical assets and a growing health care industry. In addition, the City is looking to position itself to benefit from the nearby expansion of Fort Lee. In order to address these issues and prepare for future growth the City undertook a comprehensive plan rewrite.
Approach
Planning efforts have focused on high stakeholder participation and coordination between City departments, neighboring institutions, area NGOs and resident input. Special attention is paid to entrance corridors, and opportunities for redevelopment and economic expansion.
The final Comprehensive Plan will include future development scenarios, land use and transportation planning, and identifying redevelopment opportunities and funding resources.
