Disaster Mitigation and Recovery
The firm is skilled in both the development and implementation of programs to assist local governments in recovering from major flooding and other disasters and mitigating against future events. Our staff is also is trained in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) benefit-cost software that can assist a locality in determining the feasibility and potential budget for a project. A common denominator in our disaster and mitigation work has been our ability to combine several funding sources, resulting in significantly greater resources beyond disaster relief monies.
Funds have been received from Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Economic Development Association (EDA), Small Business Association (SBA), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), each using components of their various programs as leverage. The firm was the first in Virginia to successfully fund a project using CDBG Small Cities funds and FEMA Hazard Mitigation funds with its project in Henry County.
Other Recent clients include the Towns of Abingdon and Keysville along with the Isle of Wight, Mathews and Pulaski County. The firm extensive recovery and mitigation work are in the City of Franklin and Gloucester County, both in Virginia, as a result of Hurricanes Floyd (1999), Isabel (2003), Gaston (2004), Ernesto (2006), Ida (2009) and the Nor'easters/Winter Storms of 2010. We have also worked with the Town of Moss Point, Mississippi, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina (2005).
